Steps to Become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)

Understand the Role:
Before starting your ADI driving instructor course, grasp the depth of the role. As an ADI, you'll teach driving mechanics, prioritise road safety, build confidence, and shape responsible drivers.

Check Eligibility:
To qualify as an ADI, you must:
Be at least 21 years old.
Hold a valid driving license for a minimum of 3 consecutive years.
Have no disqualifications in the last four years

Choose the Right ADI Course:

Select a reputable training centre offering a comprehensive ADI driving instructor course. Ensure it covers practical driving techniques and the theory of safe driving instruction.

Register with DVSA:
Before commencing training, register with the DVSA, responsible for conducting ADI exams and granting accreditation.

 

Pass the Three-Part ADI Test:
After completing your ADI course, you'll undergo:

•    Part 1: Theory test on driving theory and hazard perception.
•    Part 2: Practical driving test to assess your driving skills.
•    Part 3: Instructional test demonstrating your teaching ability.

Receive Your ADI Badge:
Upon passing the ADI tests, receive your official ADI badge. Display it proudly in your teaching vehicle as you embark on a fulfilling career guiding new drivers.

Becoming a Road Safety Authority Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)

Becoming a Road Safety Authority (RSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with Finglas Driver Training opens doors to a profession dedicated to enhancing road safety. Our ADI training program prepares you thoroughly for the RSA examinations, ensuring you meet the highest standards of competence and professionalism. As an ADI, you'll play a crucial role in shaping responsible and confident drivers, contributing positively to your community's safety on the road.

Step One
Fill out and send an ADI application to the RSA, along with a garda vetting request.

 

Tax clearance certificate will also need to be sent with your application. This is available from Revenue at

Step 2
Once you have received an eligibility number from the RSA, you can now apply for an ADI Theory Test, Stage 1 of the ADI examination, for the categories in which you wish to instruct.

On successful completion of the relevant theory test, may now apply to the RSA for participation in Stage 2, (Driving test) & Stage 3 (Instruction ability) of the ADI examination.

  • Be at least 21 years old
